21 May 1882 - Beginning of Diocese of Rockhampton and appointment of Bishop Cani
11 June 1894 - Cathedral construction commenced
17 March 1895 - Foundation stone laid
15 October 1899 - Opening of St Joseph’s Cathedral by Cardinal Moran
March 1942 - Stained glass windows removed and buried at Neerkol for safe-keeping during war time
1980 - Back wall declared unsafe; decision made to complete cathedral
22 May 1982 - Dedication of completed cathedral by Cardinal Freeman during Diocesan Centenary Celebrations
1988 - Stained glass windows removed, restored at Birmingham, England and replaced
15-17 October 1999 - Celebration of cathedral’s Centenary
